Optimizing Osmotic Power Generation
How might we optimize continuous osmotic power generation in desalination plants through reverse electrodialysis (RED)? Follow my journey as I explore this topic in depth over the coming months...
We'll aim to design, construct, and test a small-scale reverse electrodialysis (RED) cell capable of
generating measurable electrical output from saltwater gradients, collect repeatable data across
various conditions (salinity and flow rate) and then use the results to quantify efficiency trends
and evaluate real-world potential for desalination brine energy recovery.
If the hardware prototype build fails, we'll transition to building a computational model.
On the other hand, if the initial build becomes successful quickly, we have a number of extensions we could follow.
Either way, it promises to be an interesting journey - whether a roaring success, a spectacular failure, or somewhere in between!
